End of 12 weeks

Firstly, I would like to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Syed Zulkhieree Syed Hussin (Section Manager of Assembly Operations II), Mr. C.Y Ng and Mr. Luqman (Process Engineer) as they were the personals who gave me the opportunity to carry out this industrial training in National Semiconductor Melaka (NSEM). Without their continuous encouragements, guidance, opinions, and advices, and lectures throughout the 12 weeks in NSEM, I may not be able to complete this industrial training successfully.

Next I would like to thank Puan Zaharah Abdullah. She is kind, helpful and friendly. She helped me to understand the specs, the chemicals involve in solder plating and also the processes whenever I didn’t understand. Not to forget also to all QC Lab staffs.

I would also like to thank to all the technicians especially Mr. Sundralingam in my way to comprehend the mechanical system of the machines. Well, to all the supervisors and operators of solder plating in NSEM, I appreciate your invaluable views, thoughts, and ideas that you had gave me, which had helped me, gained not only knowledge but also experience.

Abstract

As part of integrated curriculum of Bachelor Engineering (Hons) Mechanical programmes, industrial training for 12 weeks in National Semiconductor Melaka was a big opportunity for me to get expose in the rapid industrialization of our country.

During the period of training at this company, they assigned me to solder plating department and I:

1. Gained experience as well as hands-on in real working environment of NSEM.

2.Get acquainted with the organization structure of NSEM.

3. Understanding the business operations of this company.

4. Comprehend the administrative functions.

5. Performed several tasks that benefit to me and the company which has developed synergetic collaboration between the company and Multimedia University in promoting a knowledgeable society.

Introduction

For the period of 12 weeks in NSEM the jobs assigned to me were:

1. Understanding safety rules in working area that involving chemicals by attending Advance Chemical Training provided by NSEM.

2. Figured out the whole mechanical system for the machines in the plating area assisted by maintenance engineer and senior technicians.

3. Learned process and specs of solder plating set up by the company. This task was carried out and support by process engineer.

4. Identified the abnormality in a machine by conducting research analysis in scientific method.

5. Discover the method of finding item to focus on cost minimization from the conclusion obtained from the scientific analysis. This was taught by the operation manager of the department.

Full Report

During the 12 weeks of training, i have performed several tasks assigned by the manager of the department. The objective of the tasks are as below:

Task 1: To find out and fix abnormality on each chemical tank by comparing decreasing rate of chemical in every tank.

Task 2: To find out how much the usage of every chemicals involve in production in each day and establish the quantity usages of chemicals in a week, a month and relate it to the first task in order for cost minimization strategy.

Task 3: To find out the quantity of vacuum suction cups usage on MECO strip plater and determine which machine use more cups and why.
